He saved his money and "good behavior" points for this board. He dreamed big dreams, too, about how he would ride it, where he would ride it, and what it'd feel like to be soaring down the sidewalk on it. He printed off photographs of it, too, from online sites and stuck them into his *wish* box, for good measure. And finally, on the fourth of July, his wish came true. He got the board.
First place I took him to ride his board, though, Balboa Park, didn't allow skateboarders to ride there. The look of disappointment on his face felt like a punch in the stomach to me. But he handled the "No Riding Skateboard" like the champ he is.
I snapped the photo above of him as he sat on a tree stump, holding his board, dreaming of different sidewalks to ride. He is a very determined guy. And we found some good ones to ride later on that day.
Sweet little man of mine. I adore those skinny legs of his, and his big feet, but most of all, I love his determination and mindset. Determination is a lovely attribute to have - and will make for a lovely man one day.
